When God Stoops Down
It can be difficult to understand how and where to read in the Bible - especially the Old Testament. If you sort this podcast from oldest to newest, and start with the very first podcast, together we walk through the story that God is writing, starting in Genesis. We build on that beginning to highlight the important events, as we weave together, and begin to understand, God’s bigger story of relationship and rescue. Knowing the story from the beginning is important, because the more we know about God, the more clearly we can understand ourselves. If you’ve struggled to know how to understand the Old Testament, and how it is relevant to you now, this podcast will help you to discover more truths about the Lord, and yourself, through the story God has been writing since the beginning of time. As each podcast says, we want you to know more about who God is and who you are because of Him. This podcast is for those seeking to understand/learn the Bible, for those who need encouragement, for those who want to start their day off with an uplifting word, and for those who aren’t sure about God and want to meet Him in the safety of their own space.

“Only be very careful to observe the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, to love the Lord your God and to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments and to cling to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.” Joshua 22:5 (ESV)
God is one who fulfills His promises. Every word He speaks will come true. Today we also discover, through Joshua 22, that God is a God of rest. He wants us to cling to Him whether we are in battle or in rest. If only I could assure you in your darkest hour that good promises and rest are waiting on the other side when you cling to the Lord!

This week we see that God fights our battles for us, even when those battles began as mistakes on our behalf. God is the only one who can turn our mistakes into victory. Once we realize we have done wrong and we turn those things over to Him, God will not hold back to fight for us on our behalf.

SHOUT in victory when God is taking the city! In Joshua we study the story of Jericho and a woman named Rahab. It may be easy to see what God is destroying, without discovering what He is rebuilding. Rahab is a story about God seeing one woman and offering her a new life and a new beginning. Rahab reveals a God who is personal and powerful. What new thing is God doing in your life?
“And the city and all that is within it shall be devoted to the Lord for destruction. Only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her house shall live, because she hid the messengers whom we sent.” Joshua 6:17 (ESV)

“When your children ask in time to come, “What do those stones mean to you?” then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever.” Joshua 4: 6- 7 (ESV) Reminders of God’s goodness are exactly what we need for strength and courage.

This podcast sums up the first part of the book of Deuteronomy with several verses. As we begin a new book of the Bible, we look back at all that God has done for the Israelites up until this point. Moses reminds the people of God's faithfulness and goodness and admonishes them to continue to follow after the Lord as they move forward into the Promised Land.
If you're new to this podcast, the goal is to summarize the Old Testament by highlighting important moments. As we walk through the stories, we learn more about who God is, and as a result, learn more about who WE are, as well. If you haven't already, you may want to sort the podcasts and begin with the oldest podcast first so you don't miss out on the story from the beginning.

"And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.'” Numbers 21:8 (ESV)
Sin can be a hard topic. Thank goodness God provides a solution to the consequences of our own choices. It can be hard to balance all sides of God- He is Judge and yet He is compassionate. He rescues us from ourselves and our choices. We learn an important lesson about sin, rescue, forgiveness and healing from this lesson in Numbers 21. Walk through the Bible with us as we discover who God is and who we are because of Him.

“If the LORD delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land that flows with milk and honey. Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread to us. Their protection is removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.” Numbers 14:8-9 (ESV)
Don't let anything hold you back from the goodness that God has for you. His protection, provision and rest are waiting when you are able to remove the fear and doubt that keep you from trusting God.

“You shall be holy to me. For I the Lord am holy and have separated you from the people, that you should be mine.” Leviticus 20:26 (ESV)
Holiness isn't about quiet tones in a pew filled church with stained glass windows. No, holiness is a way of living that recognizes God's desire to set up apart for relationship with Him. Knowing how God loves us should change us and should change our lives.

This week's Bible teaching is in the book of Job. We discover a God who desires an honest relationship. God is big enough to handle our grief, our anger, our questions, our doubting... whatever emotion it is that we have. God's relationship with you is meant to be an honest one.
